Crown Estates will take over the management of the moorings on the River Hamble from Hampshire County Council. This news follows discussions with council representatives and river users, after management shortcomings were highlighted as waiting lists soared.
Previously, as owner of the riverbed, the Crown Estate leased the riverbed to Hampshire County Council. Under the new arrangements the Crown Estate will manage the moorings, but will continue to work in partnership with the County Council in the management of the river.
For next year, 2002, mooring charges for individuals will increase by just 1.64 per cent. In 2003 a new system of banded charges are set to be introduced. However, the details of which are subject to further discussion.
