Stormy weather in Valencia yesterday means two flights must be raced today
Things still aren’t going quite as planned in Valencia. Flight 5 of Round Robin Two of the Louis Vuitton Cup was postponed yesterday, with the Race Comittee sending the fleet home at 1615 as thunder and lightening crackled over the water. BMW Oracle meteorologist Chris Bedford described conditions as a ‘dogs breakfast’ of wind directions.
The cancelled races means that a double flight is scheduled today, Friday 4 May, with Flight 5 followed by Flight 6. BMW Oracle racing against Luna Rossa Challenge is the one to watch in Flight 5. Both teams sit equal first on the leaderboard with 27 points. The winner will be alone at the top, at least until the Flight 6 results come through.
The Race Committee will be relieved that the low pressure system has now moved to the northeast, leaving a light northwesterly gradient behind. Wind strength will be in the 7-10 knot range.
