The dredger captain who rammed Hythe Pier after a drinking session has been jailed
Dredger skipper Andrew Bartlett has been jailed for eight months after ramming Hythe Pier in Southampton Water after a drinking session.
Bartlett pleaded guilty to endangering ships, structures and individuals at Southampton Crown Court.
Bartlett had two and a half times the drink drive limit of alcohol in his blood. Justice Boggis QC said the results could have been ‘appalling’ had the Hythe ferry been disembarking at the pier.
