Raising funds for cancer kids
Two windsurfers have crossed the English Channel in heavy weather and raised £7,000 for the Ellen MacArthur Trust.Windsurfing world champion and world sailing speed record holder Antoine Albeau of France and 13 times British Champion windsurfer Guy Cribb crossed from Cherbourg to Poole, a distance of 70 miles.
Their top speeds were around 40 mph over large seas. Their average speed was slower as they weaved round traffic in the busy shipping lanes, and from resting due to fatigue.
The size of seas blocked their view of each other and of their support boats.
The Ellen MacArthur Trust takes young people aged between 8-18 on sailing trips to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illness.
