To rival Southampton
Portsmouth’s first ever boat show received 100,000 visitors last weekend – and organisers boast it could one day rival Southampton’s boat show.
Mostly consisting of power boats and RIBS, city leaders have nevertheless vowed to make it a regular event and attract even more boats to the Gunwharf Quays location.
Portsmouth South MP Mike Hancock said: ‘I hope it’s the start of a great relationship to have regular boat shows in our city.
‘Southampton has had the market for a long time.
‘But there’s more going for us than there is in Southampton.
‘We have plans over the next two or three years to support all sorts of events to bring people to the city.’
