Wooden boats especially in danger
Forecasted torrential downpours are set to leave some yachts at risk of sinking this weekend.
The recent dry weather means wooden boats are especially vulnerable, as deck and hull seams open up above the waterline and the expected rainfall could force the open seams below the waterline.
Insurers are warning that policies generally exclude claims based on a gradual ingress of water, which violate the clause in most boat insurance policies that the vessel must be kept in a seaworthy condition.
