RNLI declares the maroon ' unsafe' for landlubbers
The RNLI are to end the traditional maroon to alert crews to a lifeboat launch because falling debris from the exploding rockets could harm people on the ground.
Lifeboatmen are to be issued instead with pagers which will tell them when they are needed.
The ban has caused fears that collections will drop: in some areas the maroon is a signal to fill lifeboat tins.
