Spanish skipper snatches overall third from Sir Robin
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston may have sailed a fantastic final leg in the Velux 5 Oceans, but Spanish sailor Unai Basurko stole a march on him, finishing a day later on the morning of Saturday 5 March, but taking third place overall in the Velux 5 Oceans race.
The local hero sailed his Open 60 Pakea into the history books in dramatic conditions as thunder rolled around the bay off the port of Gexto, Bilbao, and forked lightning struck the sea around the enormous spectator fleet welcoming the Basque solo sailor into his home port in torrential rain; a fitting finish to an epic race.
