Brave pledge to round Britain
Hilary Lister, a 34 year old quadriplegic from Kent, only able to move her head, sailed into the record books on 23rd August 2005 when she sailed solo across the English Channel by using a ‘sip and puff’ system of straws to control the sails and tiller.
Now Hilary has set a new World Record at the Earls Court Boat Show. With the help of the Royal Marines, Hilary abseiled down the front of Earls Court. She is the first ever quadriplegic to do so.
Hilary is using the show to launch her new dream – to sail around the British Isles. Hilary and her team are now making plans to attempt this in the summer of 2007. Her plan is to sail around the coast, from port to port.
Artemis has joined Westbere Sailing Opportunities and the UKSA to finance a new Artemis 20′ boat, which will be specifically adapted for Hilary’s attempt.
