Launch and rescue captured on video
A lifeboat crew has captured its rescue of a French yacht on video.
The Jersey crew was paged at 2.40am this morning after the yacht ran aground on the Ecrehous reef.
The St Catherine’s RNLI lifeboat and the St Helier all-weather lifeboat both launched within 15 minutes and arrived at the stricken vessel 18 minutes later.
On a falling tide the yacht was unlikely to refloat until after 9am, so, with force six winds forecast, the yacht was evacuated and the four crew members taken ashore.
This morning the St Helier all-weather lifeboat returned to the yacht with salvage pumps to attempt to refloat it on the rising tide and recover it to St Helier.
