First Ocean Safety Weekend a big hit
Ocean Safety’s Southampton Liferaft Servicing Open Weekend in association with Yachting Monthly was a big hit with readers, who enjoyed free admission and expert advice at the event.
Ocean Safety Managing Director Charlie Mill said that 42 visitors brought liferafts with them to be checked, and estimated attendance to be up 15% on last year’s event, with many bringing family and friends along.
Here’s what one Scuttlebutt reader had to say about the event:
‘It was excellent. We took the liferaft in for a service and to start with they opened it up and inflated it so that we could see it in operating mode. Great! We also had a flare firing demonstration (and a chance to fire flares ourselves – note to self – buy a welding glove!!). Also some really good tips on servicing lifejackets. And all without charge. We also received some really good advice on EPIRBS and ended up buying a 406 & 121 GPS Cat 2 ACR. They’ve really come down in price and to my mind a “must have” now. The staff there were very helpful and extremely knowledgeable, we were most impressed. 10/10. Wholly recommended – I think they are planning another open day in the West Country in the next month or so.’
Don’t miss the Plymouth event on Saturday 3 March – it could save your life.
