Dorset to host marine rubbish forum
The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) is set to host, in conjunction with the Dorset Coast Forum, a Marine Litter Summit on Friday, 24th April 2009.
During the conference, marine specialists, wildlife experts and coastal and marine stakeholders from around the UK will address the increasing problem of marine litter and work towards ways to tackle the sources and the monitoring and clean up of marine litter locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
With marine litter having a detrimental effect to tourism trade throughout the UK and it’s damaging effects to many species of marine life it is important that all parties involved work together to overcome the problem.
The Dorset Coast Forum are coordinating the event in partnership with manager’s from the Dorset AONB, the Dorset Wildlife Trust and the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The 75 plus attendees from a wide variety of sectors and locations around the UK will make full use of the conference facilities available at WPNSA.
John Tweed, Chief Executive of WPNSA comments ‘We are delighted that the Marine Litter Summit is being held here at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, marine litter is an important issue facing all parties in the marine industry and we are pleased that we can offer the Dorset Coast Forum the facilities to host such an event.’
