Cutter from Lord Nelson's Victory to compete in Trafalgar river race
The cutter from Nelson’s flagship Victoru will be among more than 2,000 craft in the Trafalgar Great River Race from Richmond, Surrey to Greenwich on 17 September.
The 22-mile race will include Thames skiffs, shallops and wherries, Celtic longboats, Hawaiian outrigger canoes, Scarborough and Whitby gigs, Chinese dragonboats, Devon seine boats, Irish curraghs, Montagu whalers, Cornish pilot gigs and Norwegian faerings.
Crews are from the UK, Europe and the US and are competing for the Trafalgar Trophy, made from original oak and copper from HMS Victory and the Challenge Trophy of The Company of Watermen & Lightermen of the River Thames.
