German bomb explodes in River Thames
Royal Navy divers have had to deal with a German parachute mine which was trawled up in a fishing boat’s nets.
The 2,000 pound mine was detonated by the expert team in the River Thames just one mile from Southend Pier in Essex.
The plume of river water soared to 400 feet as moored yachts nearby shivered from the shockwaves.
