More than 100 boatbuilders cut jobs
Swedish boatbuilders Malö Yachts and Regina af Vindö have both announced plans to reduce their workforce.
At Malö Yachts, which is based in Kungsviken on the island of Orust on Sweden’s west coast, 11 out of 42 employees will have to leave the company while Regina af Vindö, also on Orust, will cut five out of 12 jobs.
“The future is very uncertain. I noticed this 1.5 years ago and we then decided to extend our winter storage department to get a better economical base,” says Ove Rexander at Regina af Vindö to Bohusläningen. “We have to do this to save the rest of the jobs.”
The downsizing at Regina will be completed by May 31, 2009. More than 100 boatbuilders on the island of Orust have been affected by job cuts, Nord West Yachts included.
