Our micro-blogs attracting a diverse crowd
Yachting Monthlyhas more than 1,000 followers on Twitter, the ‘micro-blogging’ social networking website. Our daily postings have attracted yachtsmen and women from the world over, as well as others from a less nautical background.
Twitter is a free web-based social-networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users’ updates known as ‘tweets’. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length which are displayed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them – ‘followers’.
The US President Barack Obama is one of our followers, though we suspect he follows anyone who follows his Twitter postings. The vast majority ofYM’s followers are lovers of the great outdoors. Walkers, climbers, divers, beach-lovers, surfers, cyclists and paddlers of one form or another as well as sailors and boat enthusiasts make up the bulk of the audience. We are particularly proud of oneYMfollower – Mike Golding, the British solo racing legend, regularly reads our ‘tweets’.
If you’d like to join him and the more than 1,000 others, sign up with Twitter and type in our name.
