Work to begin in Spring 2011
East Cowes’ marina development has been granted full planning permission with building work expected to begin next Spring.
The planning consent covers constructing a 300-berth marina as part of the Cowes Outer Harbour Project plus a marina building, public landing facility and temporary car parking.
Outline planning permission has also been granted for the permanent marina car park, a 60-bed hotel, 12 houses and commercial premises.
The Marine Maritime Organisation has already given permission for the water-based parts of the Outer Harbour Project, which comprises the outer breakwater and a new channel.
Cowes harbourmaster and chief executive of Cowes Harbour Commission, Captain Stuart McIntosh, said: ‘This decision and planning consent is great news and a major step towards delivering the Outer Harbour Plan that will finally make Cowes a truly sheltered harbour, improving safety.
‘It is also a significant step towards securing the long term future prosperity of the harbour and the local economy.’
