Europe's biggest windfarm will not be built on Scotland's west coast
Sail north past Ardnamurchan and you earn the right to tie a sprig of heather to your bowsprit or pushpit. The passage is famous among yachtsman for the rough seas that kick up in strong winds and the coast’s stunning beauty when the weather is fine.
That beauty will remain unchanged following a decision by the Highland Council that test rigs that could have preceded 500 wind turbines cannot be set up across Mull, Morvern and Ardnamurchan.
The council is reported to have said that the 350-ft turbines would have destroyed the area’s natural beauty.
