Following an unsuccessful attempt by John Passmore to sail non-stop, single- handed around Britain and Ireland in his 27ft Heavenly Twins catamaran, Lottie Warren, Peter Keig is to make a new attempt to establish the record in his 38ft self-built steel yacht Zeal. Passmore’s vessel capsized off the Shetlands in 80-knot winds in June.
Peter, who has twice circumnavigated the world in Zeal, runs Carrick Yacht Services, in Belfast Lough. This year Peter won the Ocean Cruising Club’s award of merit.
He left Carrickfergus Marina on 5 August, heading north around Northern Ireland. He then turned south down the west coast of Ireland and will head anti-clockwise around Britain. He is now south of the Fastnet, with a considerable amount of the 2,000 miles still to go.
We will follow his progress, and post daily reports.
