Porpoise rescued after being spotted on shore
A porpoise found on the shore near Hampshire’s Langstone Bridge was rescued by the coastguard and fire services last week after being spotted by a passer-by. It was transported to Northney Marina where it spent four hours regaining its strength and swimming in the marina. When it was deemed fit enough, the porpoise was re-released into the sea at the harbour entrance.
‘We are proud to have been involved in the first rescue of this kind,’ commented Northney Marina Manager Mike Smith. ‘The coastguard and fire brigade did an excellent job and it was wonderful to see the porpoise being re-released.’
