New race for solo small boat skippers
Fancy a challenge on Saturday 6th May?
RIOW Solo is a single handed race around the Isle of Wight for yachts between 25ft and 40ft with a special class for Minis (6.5m rule).
The course will be familiar to all those who have participated in the fully crewed and two handed races around the Island but the challenge of sailing solo will bring added excitement to this 50 mile track.
The race is organised by Petit Bateau, a group that describes itself as consisting of ‘men and women who race offshore, mostly in production boats (often slightly modified), with a few one-off designs, with no sponsor and no budget. Monohulls and multihulls commonly race together in the short handed world, and the membership of our community reflects that. Some of us do not have a boat of our own, just a keen interest. Petit Bateau is a mutual-aid group. We keep in touch through our electronic mailing-list. We aim to provide support and we work to promote our own interests and agenda.’
As with all Petit Bateau races, yachts will race in open classes determined only by overall length. However IRC results will also be calculated.
