85 sailors depart Largs Yacht Haven
The RYA MalinWaters cruise to Ireland got underway on 10 August, with as many as 24 boats and 85 sailors departing from Largs Yacht Haven. Sailors came from all over Scotland to take part in the cruise, which stops at harbours and marinas on both sides of the Irish Sea.
Those on the lead boat include Skipper Barry Lauchlan from DDZ Marine, Cruise Manager Graham Moss and Yachtmaster Matt Toynbee from RYA Scotland.
Organisers said the cruise was aimed at people who wouldn’t normally cruise far, giving them an opportunity to sail somewhere new with the comfort of on-hand experts in a friendly group.
After arriving in Derry on Tuesday, participants were to be welcomed by Derry City Council at a drinks reception hosted by the mayor. The cruise was then set to return to the west of Scotland on Wednesday (14 August) taking in stops at Coleraine, Ballycastle and then Campeltown before arriving back in Largs.
