The BBC’s news site has reported an embarrassing incident in which firefighters had to rescue a 60-year-old man after he became stuck 40ft up his mast.

The yachtsman had been carrying working on his boat at Portishead Marina when his mast climbing system jammed while he was up the mast.

The yacht was moved to a lock which was drained. Firemen then put a ladder against the mast and the embarrassed sailor climbed down, cold but uninjured.
