Three crewmen went over the side during the Newport-Bermuda Race in rough weather conditions and big Gulf Stream waves. 

All three ‘man overboards’ occured when damaged sails or rigging were being changed. 

But the three sailors were rescued in 5 minutes or less. Crews attributed the swift recoveries to safety drills practiced before the race.
