New amateur round-the-world-race launched
An exciting new round-the-world race has been announced which will bring back the spirit of the Golden Globe Race which made Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and Donald Crowhurst household names.
The Albatross Race starts in La Horta in the Azores in August 2015 and is for single-handed amateurs.
The race will start off Northern end of La Horta breakwater, Azores, at 1300 Local Time on the 31 August 2015 before to heading south and leaving the three Capes – Good Hope, Leewin and Horn – to port side, and finishing back in La Horta.
The race is open to sailing monohulls with no size restriction. Stops are allowed for temporary repairs or to find accessible shelter in very severe weather conditions. Use of engine is allowed for safety reasons.
There is no time limit, no awards and no medals ‘Just the satisfaction and humbleness of being one of the few sailors to have accomplished their dream,’ an organiser said.
