Ever feel like you're in the wrong job? Virgin Atlantic staff have been invited to take part in a BVIs sailing fund-raiser
Virgin Atlantic is organise a sailing event for 90 employees from Sunsail’s Caribbean base in the British Virgin Islands (BVIs) this November. Staff will be paying their own way, and will also be raising funds for Virgin’s charitable causes at the same time, including Free the Children.
The event is meant to be challenging and fun for the staff, as they compete in a series of races over the week in November 2016. Starting from Sunsail’s base in Road Town on Tortola in the BVIs, the teams will be racing from island to island with additional challenges along the way having Necker Island as the back drop:
Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group said:
‘A great idea and I am looking forward to welcoming our Virgin Sailors to the BVIs. I hope to join in too.’
Captain Chris Hall, one of Virgin’s very first pilots, and the driver behind all of the challenges undertaken through the years, said of this new event:
‘Our unique brand of staff-led activism is all about challenging our people whilst having fun and doing good. More than 1500 of us have cycled, climbed, run and trekked all around the world and now we can’t resist the idea of bringing some serious Virgin energy to experience sailing in the BVIs. It’s a place that’s very much Virgin Territory, with the hundreds of thousands of people we fly to the Caribbean and of course the charismatic presence of Richard. We can’t wait to open up the sails and we hope to raise thousands of pounds for our charity partner Free The Children.’
With some of the participants having never stepped on a boat before, the Caribbean Sailing Challenge is set to test sea legs to the limits and raise a significant amount of money for worthy causes.
Sunsail’s base at Wickham’s Cay II, Tortola, is claimed to be the best located and best equipped yacht charter base on the island. Situated on the outskirts of Road Town, Sunsail has more yachts there than anywhere else in the world.
The BVIs have all of the ingredients for the perfect Caribbean sailing experience: easy deep-water island hops, consistent trade winds, line-of-sight navigation and plentiful sheltered anchorages.
