Kenichi Horie crosses International Date Line at 2 knots
After witnessing maxi-catamaran Gitana’s record breaking 11-day crossing of the North Pacific, it is easy to forget just how big the ocean is. Kenichi Horie is now 1/3 of the way from Hawaii to Japan in his wave-powered catamaran Suntory Mermaid II. He left Hawaii on the 18th March , and has been making a steady 2 knots since.
Today Horie crossed the International date line, and celebrated with two cans of beer. “I usually have a can of beer a day but, I had two this time” he commented.
