Broadcasting to a portable, digital satellite receiver, WorldSpace Weather Forecasting offers marine forecasts for yachtsmen.

The service covers 77 different sectors in Europe and North and West Africa. The content for the new 24 hours a day, 7 days a week system is provided by WCS Marine Weather.

As well as the weather information, WorldSpace’s two geostationary satellites are able to broadcast over 40 audio, data and multimedia channels. As part of the subscription package, Which costs about £5 per month, the marine sets will be capable of receiving a selection of the Afristar satellite’s audio, entertainment and information channels.

The receivers start at £120 although an extra external antenna may also be required for effective use towards the extremities of the coverage area.
