More than 50 bidders around the world battled to buy a watering can used in the failed attempt to save the bottlenosed whale which swam up the Thames past Westminster.

The winnning bid on Ebay was £2,050 and will go to British Divers Marine Life Rescue who were involved in trying to save the beast.

The whale died after being lifted onto a barge which aimed to release it back in the North Sea.
