Blaze at Southampton's Ocean Village wrecks 39ft yacht.
This was the dramatic sight last night as firefighters raced against time to contain a blaze that destroyed a yacht moored at Ocean Village, Southampton.
Fire crews rushed to the marina shortly before 11.10pm where the 39ft luxury sailing yacht was being wrecked by the blaze.
Crews from St Mary’s and Redbridge Hill fire stations battled the flames for 45 minutes, which they believe started after a heater onboard the vessel was left on.
A fire spokesman said: ‘Strong winds were blowing the flames across the pontoons and we had to work quickly to stop the fire getting out of hand.’
Fire fighters stayed at the scene until 1.30am to make sure the fire was completely controlled.
