Fund-raising in the Solent
More than 200 people joined Dee Caffari, Geoff Holt, Mike Golding and over 50 Sunsail Skippers to sail a mile from Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth raising £2,150 for Sport Relief.
‘It was a great idea by Sunsail to organise the sailing mile as we build up to the big Sport Relief Weekend’ said Dee Caffari. ‘People of all ages and abilities were getting out on the water to experience and share my passion for sailing. It was an absolutely fantastic day and I was delighted to be involved’.
Many people who have never before set foot on a yacht and wouldn’t know their port from starboard were given the chance to take to the helm, hoist the sails and tack and jibe their way around the Sport Relief Sailing Mile.
Feedback from the public include comments such as ‘what a wonderful experience”, ‘loads of fun, fab team and great instruction’.
As sister company to Thomson Sport, who were official sponsors of Christine Bleakley’s massive waterskiing challenge, it was only appropriate that Sunsail stick to a waterports theme. And Sunsail were delighted to donate their resources and operations to such a good cause and to ensure that every pound donated goes directly to Sport Relief.
The money raised will help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people, both at home and across the world’s poorest countries.
