More than 600 people watched the cruising chute feature today – the newest event at the London Boat Show.

Sponsored by Yaching Monthly, the cruising chute demo was held on a full-size sailing boat set on a turntable that could rotate 180° in front of four wind machines.

Sailing guru John Goode will be on stand H5 in the south hall throughout the show’s 10 days, demonstrating how to hoist, trim, gybe and drop the powerful downwind sail without any drama.

One spectator told YM: ‘I learned more about setting a downwind sail in 10 minutes than I had in 15 years of sailing.’
