Bowman 40 (old style)
Supremely elegant and epitomising serious offshore cruising yachts of the 1960s and early 1970s, which has since come to be widely regarded as something of a golden age for British boatbuilders, this Laurent Giles design is still a popular choice among blue-water cruisers after nearly 40 years afl oat. Under sail, her handling and performance are good, and the long keel is quite shallow, so she can
creep into creeks that other large ocean cruisers cannot reach. She has seven or eight berths in three cabins, and although narrowbeamed, she manages to have a spacious feel under her high
deckhead. She has a reasonable galley and good chart table. For a long-distance cruiser, her fuel and water tanks are on the small side.
